The 20 Most Auspicious Aspects in a Birth Chart (16–20)

16

The Mystic Rectangle

Two oppositions that never became a crisis, because every corner had somewhere softer to lean.

Why it ranks here

The most productive of the "easy" configurations because it builds tension and release into the same closed shape, though it ranks below the Kite for sheer output.

How rare

Genuinely uncommon — requires four planets in a specific arrangement of two oppositions, two trines, and two sextiles. Realistically a low-single-digit percentage of charts at working orbs.

Orb & degree logic

Require the two oppositions within 8°, the two trines within 7°, and the two sextiles within 5°. The sextiles fail first and are the legs to verify. Because the shape necessarily spans four signs of the same polarity, check for dissociation at sign boundaries, which converts one leg into a different aspect and collapses the rectangle into a loose T-square.

Keywords

mystic rectangle · two oppositions · harmonic rectangle · productive tension · named configuration · self-regulating chart · trine sextile opposition · balanced polarity · structural talent · closed shape with pressure

What it feels like

Two oppositions that refuse to become a crisis — that is what you are carrying. Most people with an opposition experience it as a tug-of-war between two areas of life that will not both be satisfied. You have two of them, and yet they do not tear you apart, because each end of each axis has a trine and a sextile bracing it. The lived experience is of being pulled in opposing directions and consistently finding a workable third option. You are the person in the meeting who resolves the deadlock. Relationships and projects that would break other people simply become negotiations for you.

What other astrologers miss

The name invites mystical readings, but structurally this is a tension configuration wearing soft aspects — the two oppositions are doing the work and the trines and sextiles are only the suspension system, so a reading that emphasizes harmony misses that the native's entire competence was built under pressure. Check dignity on the opposition planets specifically: a debilitated planet at one corner becomes the leak, and the rectangle drains through it.

17

Sun Conjunct Jupiter (with the Combustion Caveat)

Everyone calls Sun conjunct Jupiter lucky. The old astrologers called it a burning. The truth sits at eight degrees and seventeen minutes.

Why it ranks here

Ranked deliberately below Sun trine Jupiter — an honest technical verdict, because in traditional terms this celebrated conjunction places Jupiter under the beams or combust, and the benefic is compromised precisely where it appears strongest.

How rare

Occurs once per 399-day synodic cycle; a conjunction inside 8° covers roughly eighteen days, so somewhere near four to five percent of births carry it.

Orb & degree logic

This is the entry where the three solar states must be applied rigorously. Within 17 arcminutes Jupiter is cazimi — enthroned, and this is the rare version worth celebrating without reservation. From 0°17' to approximately 8°17' Jupiter is combust, its significations burned and internalized. From there to roughly 15° Jupiter is under the beams, weakened but functional.

Keywords

Sun conjunct Jupiter · combustion · under the beams · cazimi Jupiter · burned benefic · solar fusion · inflated identity · faith and ego · oriental Jupiter · technical caveat

What it feels like

Being born within a few degrees of a Sun-Jupiter conjunction gives you a largeness that everyone can see and that you can never quite cash. Faith, generosity, and appetite are fused into your identity rather than available to you as separate resources — which means you cannot use them strategically, you can only be them. Natives are frequently described as magnanimous, and are frequently broke. Belief runs hot: you commit to philosophies, causes, and people totally, and revising that commitment feels like a betrayal of self rather than an update. There is real charisma, real warmth, and a real problem with scale — everything you attempt is one size too big, including the self-concept.

What other astrologers miss

Modern practice sells Sun conjunct Jupiter as an unambiguous blessing while traditional practice would call the same aspect a combust benefic and downgrade it sharply — and the honest position is that both are describing real natives, separated by whether the conjunction is inside or outside 8°17'. Sect adds the final layer: in a day chart the combustion is somewhat mitigated because Jupiter is the benefic of sect and belongs to the Sun's team, while in a night chart an out-of-sect Jupiter burned by the Sun is the weakest version of this aspect that exists.

Chart evidence

Maya Angelou — Jupiter 16°07′ Aries combust the Sun at 14°48′ Aries, orb 1°19′. Mick Jagger — Jupiter 5°29′ Leo combust the Sun at 2°10′ Leo, orb 3°19′.

18

Jupiter Trine Uranus

Nothing for four years, then everything in a fortnight — that is Jupiter trine Uranus keeping its own calendar.

Why it ranks here

The single best aspect for sudden, structural good fortune — the classic breakthrough signature — ranked here because its benefits arrive in unpredictable bursts rather than as a stable condition.

How rare

The Jupiter-Uranus cycle runs roughly 13. 8 years, producing trine phases about every four to five years within the cycle. Generational in scope, so it requires personal-planet or angular contact to individualize.

Orb & degree logic

Allow 6° for two outer-cycle bodies, tightening to 4° for confident interpretation. Station data outranks orb here: a Uranus station within two weeks of birth, with its degree stated, is more diagnostic than a tight orb from a fast-moving Jupiter. Applying versus separating is best assessed through which planet is retrograde — a retrograde Uranus trine a direct Jupiter tends to internalize the breakthrough, producing an original mind rather than an eventful life.

Keywords

Jupiter trine Uranus · breakthrough luck · sudden opportunity · innovation · lucky timing · generational aspect · freedom · invention · unexpected fortune · right place right time

What it feels like

Luck here has a trapdoor quality — nothing for years, and then everything in a fortnight. This is the aspect of the well-timed exit, the bet placed a month before the market moved, the decision to go to a party you did not want to attend. Natives develop a genuine tolerance for uncertainty because uncertainty has historically been where their good outcomes came from. You are drawn to whatever is new: technology, ideas, formats, countries, people who make your existing friends nervous. Originality is real and usually the actual asset — you see the obvious thing that nobody else has said yet.

What other astrologers miss

Because both bodies are slow, this trine is shared by everyone born across a window of many months, and it means almost nothing personally unless it contacts a personal planet, an angle, or a chart ruler — most readings assign the "breakthrough" narrative to natives for whom it is pure background radiation. Jupiter's dignity also changes the payout: Jupiter in Capricorn trine Uranus produces the innovation without the fortune, an inventor who does not get paid.

Chart evidence

Donald Trump — Jupiter 17°27′ Libra trine Uranus 17°54′ Gemini, orb 0°26′, near-partile air. Virginia Woolf — Jupiter 16°36′ Taurus trine Uranus 18°05′ Virgo, orb 1°29′.

19

The Grand Sextile (star of David)

The rarest shape in the sky, and its most common symptom is a life of beautiful, unfinished fragments.

Why it ranks here

The rarest configuration in practical astrology and geometrically the most complete, ranked at nineteen because its extreme rarity usually depends on generous orbs and its practical output is frequently disappointing.

How rare

Six bodies at exact 60° intervals. In transit this occurs only a handful of times per decade and typically only when asteroids, nodes, or points are counted; natally, with the traditional planets alone at tight orbs, it is close to nonexistent. Be honest about this — the configuration is over-claimed.

Orb & degree logic

Require all six sextiles within 5°, which also produces two interlocking Grand Trines and three oppositions. If any leg exceeds 6°, do not call it a Grand Sextile; call it what it is, a Grand Trine with attachments.

Keywords

grand sextile · star of David · two grand trines · six-pointed configuration · hexagram · rare geometry · three oppositions · named configuration · complete circuit · over-claimed shape

What it feels like

Six planets, six sextiles, two interlocking Grand Trines and three oppositions running through the middle — on paper you are holding the most balanced geometry the zodiac can generate. In practice, the experience is often stranger and quieter than the diagram suggests. Everything in your chart is connected to everything else, which means you have unusual range: you can access almost any function on demand and adapt to almost any environment. People describe you as being able to do anything, which becomes a burden by about thirty. The problem is the same problem the Grand Trine has, doubled.

What other astrologers miss

Nearly every claimed Grand Sextile is built on inflated orbs or on including points and asteroids without disclosing it, and the honest technical position is that a six-planet Grand Sextile at 5° orbs is close to a lifetime rarity — so the first job is verification, not interpretation. Second: because the shape contains three oppositions, it is not purely harmonious, and readings that describe only the sextiles are describing half the figure.

20

Part of Fortune Conjunct Jupiter or Venus

Half the Part of Fortune placements in the world are wrong, because nobody checked whether the Sun was up.

Why it ranks here

A genuine fortune signature that closes the list because the Part of Fortune is a derived point rather than a body — it marks where luck lands rather than generating it.

How rare

The Part of Fortune falls within 3° of Jupiter or of Venus in roughly three percent of charts combined, but it is entirely birth-time dependent since the formula includes the Ascendant.

Orb & degree logic

Use a strict orb — 3°, 5° absolute maximum — because a calculated point does not radiate influence. The essential technical requirement is the sect-reversed formula: in a day chart, Part of Fortune = Ascendant + Moon − Sun; in a night chart, Ascendant + Sun − Moon. These produce different degrees, frequently in different signs and houses.

Keywords

Part of Fortune · Lot of Fortune · sect-reversed formula · Arabic parts · day chart formula · night chart formula · body and livelihood · material fortune · Hellenistic lot · benefic on the Lot

What it feels like

The Part of Fortune is not a planet and does not act on its own; it is the point where the Moon's relationship to the Sun is projected onto your horizon, and in Hellenistic practice it signifies the body, the livelihood, and the material circumstances of the life. Put a benefic on it and you have a person whose practical circumstances tend to resolve favorably. With Jupiter there, opportunity attaches itself to your means of making a living — the work grows, travel and education pay off materially, and money tends to arrive through expansion rather than through saving.

What other astrologers miss

The sect reversal is the whole game and it is dropped constantly — a night-born native whose Part of Fortune was calculated with the day formula has been reading someone else's chart, sometimes for decades, and correcting it can move the Lot several signs. Also worth checking: whether the benefic on the Lot is itself combust or in fall, because a Lot of Fortune conjunct a burned Jupiter promises a livelihood that looks larger from the outside than it is from inside.

Chart evidence

Open it to the 5° absolute maximum and exactly two charts appear, both Venus and both dissociate across a sign boundary. Vincent van Gogh — Part of Fortune 2°04′ Aries with Venus 28°03′ Pisces, orb 4°01′.

Last thing

The aspect you have is not the whole story

Two people can have the same Venus–Jupiter conjunction and live completely different lives, because the aspect is only one layer. The house it lands in, the sign it sits in, whether either planet is burnt by the Sun, whether you were born by day or by night — all of it changes the reading, and none of it shows up in a list.
